A Post-Landfall Whirlwind

Have you ever had that feeling that you blinked and weeks passed? I don’t know where the last two weeks have gone...

But I do know it’s been a whirlwind here for us: lots of writing (more incredibly exciting news on that soon!), researching the care system in New Zealand and making connections, mailing lots of postcards to our dear supporters stocking up on provisions/eating lots of plants playing outside in the sunshine with my little Zia, doing laundry, and making a huge amount of progress on Windfola’s most urgent needs.

With the generosity of our supporters, we have been given the gift of a brand new windlass (to replace the 35yr old original!) and pro mechanics to do her 1000-hour servicing. I have learned so much more about her engine from watching and helping as we pulled and serviced the starter motor, fuel injectors, impeller housing, and heat exchanger.

Finally (more on this in another post), I was invited by my friend from SV Ocean Alley to race on Satellite Spy in the PHRF National Championships For our division, we took overall 1st in General/Club and 3rd in PHRF!!! I learned so much from racing with some real pros, and it blew me away to be a part of such an amazing team. (who sailed beautifully without ego or raised voices).

I still have electrical and rigging work to wrap up before we can cast off for the South Island, but hoping to leave next week. In the meantime, stay tuned for SO much more exciting news...!
